WHEN: The 14th Annual Mother's Day Mile will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013 with opening ceremonies beginning at 1 pm.
WHAT:
The one mile race benefits the domestic and sexual violence programs of the Advocate Safehouse Project of Garfield County Colorado. This premier community event attracts elite men and women competitors, recreational runners, and a host of community walk and runners who complete the one mile course just for fun. The Mother's Day Mile is as much a celebration as it is a race. A celebration of Moms, fitness, and community. Of course, men, women, and families invited.
GOODIES:
All pre-registered participants receive our signature eco bag filled with goodies; a finish line rose, and a chance to win age group awards crafted by HIV + women and men of Imani Workshops and Mfangano Island, Kenya. Everyone is invited to shop under the Big Tent at our enormous Gift Basket Silent Auction. Save your Mother's Day shopping until then and find the best bargains in town. It's a double gift as all proceeds go to the Advocate Safehouse Project.
THE COURSE:
The one mile race, yes it's only one mile, is held in four waves including a non-timed wave. Children under 14 begin with Wave 1, men and women under 40 go in Wave 2, men and women 40 and older go in Wave 3, and all non-timed families, strollers, walkers, go in Wave 4. (sorry, but Fido must stay home at this race). The race begins at Glenwood Medical Associates, there is an Aid Station at the half mile mark, and returns back to GMA.

CREATE YOUR OWN FUNDRAISING PAGE
Though fundraising is not a requirement to run the Mother's Day Mile you can go that extra mile by creating your own fundraising page to solicit donations or pledges to help the women and children of the Advocate Safehouse Project.. Set a mile goal, recruit a team, challenge some friends, be creative! We will appreciate all that you do! Simply go to www.runningguru.com and search for "Mother's Day Mile "to set up your own personal page. (Running Guru is now updated).
FROM LOCAL TO GLOBAL: We are proud of our continuing Sisterhood Exchange Program with the women of Mfangano Island and Eldoret, Kenya. Our partnership connects the Mother's Day Mile community with the HIV + women of Western Kenya. Whether it's domestic or sexual violence or the stigma of HIV/Aids women need help to provide for their families through work, empowerment, and self sufficiency. This is a Fair Trade Cooperative that pays a salary to the artisans. If you would like to join our partnership as a Sisterhood Exchange Program sponsor please contact Nancy Reinisch, at
